Designed for nursing programs.

SYNCHRONOUS
Live/synchronous workshop (via Zoom).

The date is flexible based on the program’s availability, but the workshop will run from 9am-4pm.

Workshop Description

The workshop is provided on Zoom. The date is flexible based on the program’s availability, but will be offered from 9am-4pm with breaks/lunch break built in. If the workshop is attended in full and an evaluation is completed, participants will receive six contact hours.

Prior to the workshop, the nursing program can email Gina how they currently map their curriculum, and sample benchmark assignments, if already utilized. Gina will review and incorporate feedback into the workshop in addition to the pre-planned topics. There will be a thorough review of curriculum mapping, with exemplars provided that map to various concepts and competencies including The AACN Essentials. Nurse educators will learn how to create an assignment scaffolding plan, benchmark assignments, and rubrics.

Breakout groups will work together to conceptualize the morning presentation and work on integrating or enhancing curriculum maps related to program outcomes and competencies such as The AACN Essentials, benchmark assignments, and modalities to scaffold clinical judgment and professional practice skills. Gina will circulate to work with groups.

Option One

Review your nursing program’s EPSLOs, courses, and course descriptions. If not mapped to competencies, select appropriate competencies such as The AACN Essentials. Map or Revise map of existing curriculum in your school of nursing. Start with the Ten Domains and exemplar competencies. Where are they best suited? Map each course to 1-2 domains and applicable competencies. Next, work on an assignment scaffolding plan.

Option Two

If your nursing programs are mapped to competencies, review curriculum, work on an assignment scaffolding plan, and determine where a benchmark assignment is best suited (select one to two courses in the middle and end of program). Consider benchmark assignment: a traveling case study that goes from course to course and unfolds over time that aligns with each specialty or an individual simulation activity completed in the lab. Use Tanner’s Clinical Judgment Model as a guide. Develop guidelines, learning activity, and a rubric that aligns to the EPSLOs and mapped competencies.

Participants will receive live teaching with Gina from 9am-4pm with breaks/lunch built in.

Files will be shared prior to the workshop including:

-Slides

-Exemplar curriculum maps

-Assignment scaffolding plan template

-Example benchmark assignment and rubric

At the end of the workshop, once an evaluation has been completed, participants will receive a certificate of completion with contact hours.
