Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world. Medical-Mental Health Spanish, offered synchronously on Zoom, is customizable for healthcare professional programs. This course is for students who see Spanish speaking patients in clinical settings as part of their clinical hours/rotations, yet do not have foundational Spanish knowledge. The course is a great way to enhance DEI, cultural immersion, and enhance language skills. The synchronous sessions can be offered as part of a course, residency, or cultural immersion program, and the sessions in terms of duration and content are curtailed to the needs of the program. For example, the course can be offered to Women’s Health APRN students with a focus on women’s health context, terminology and settings. This course is unique because it is the only offering that provides medical and mental health Spanish developed by a Spanish professor and a Certified Nurse Educator. To receive more information on this offering, contact Gina at ginalee.panozzo@yahoo.com.

The course is customizable and includes live teaching on Zoom. Most programs prefer to set up multiple sessions such as three sessions that are two hours each. Students are provided with resources and suggested readings to engage in enhancing their Spanish skills in between sessions. Slides/content/vocabulary are provided as well. Grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and specific content related to healthcare are included in the course. Video links are provided as well as patient-provider scenarios with written dialogues. Each two-hour session costs $500.
